The Word at Work
The Thessalonians accepted the preached message as God’s Word, powerfully active in them (v. 13). The sermon emphasizes the Scriptures as living, energetic truth that transforms believers.
Imitators in Suffering
They imitated Judean churches, suffering from countrymen as Jews persecuted believers (v. 14). The sermon shows persecution as a mark of true faith, not defeat.
Displeasing God
Those who reject the gospel—killing prophets, hindering salvation—displease God and fill up sins (vv. 15–16). The sermon warns against presumption and rejection leading to wrath.
Receive and Wrestle
The sermon urges receiving the Word as God’s, letting it energize holiness, and wrestling with it for transformation—not cold theology or numb hearts.
